A Parenting Coordinator helps parents navigate day-to-day co-parenting conflicts and implement their parenting plan, offering guidance and recommendations when disagreements arise. A Decision-Maker, on the other hand, has the authority to make legally binding decisions. Depending on the family’s needs, this can include matters such as a child’s education, healthcare, or other important aspects of their well-being. Simply put, Parenting Coordinators facilitate, while Decision-Makers decide.
Either party can motion for a Parenting Coordinator/Decision-Maker (PC/DM) to be appointed on their case. The Court can act on its own to appoint a Parenting Coordinator, but both parties must agree to the appointment of a Decision-Maker.
